Artist Statement

Okay! "Why do I create?"  There is this mind - body - soul - spirit - thing.  Sometimes I'm using my mind, sometimes I'm using my soul or spirit, sometimes I'm using my body, but the only time they all come together for me, without me even being aware of it, is when I am involved in the act of creating.

I love to draw and my paintings are an extension of my drawings.  I apply color in thin oil washes so the pencil can survive the paint.  I prefer paper or wood over canvas because of the way it accepts the strokes of my pencil.  My motivation comes from somewhere deep inside and its subjective rather than objective.

Women are my muses. I use my figures to channel feelings and emotions about how they fit into the world. Each woman has her own unique identity, strengths and vulnerabilities. There is a timeless quality to each of my figures.
